Hola! My name is Alba Huex. I am a Mayan Guatemalan woman from San Jose, Peten, a small Mayan Itza Community on the shore of Lake Peten Itza in northern Guatemala. I founded Mundo Maya Spanish School in July 2000 for travelers around the world who desire to learn Spanish in Guatemala through a full immersion experience while learning about the local culture and customs. Mundo Maya Spanish School is my passion because it is a local project running in my hometown that both engages and supports members of the local community.  The school and associated activities directly touch lives and improve the local economy by providing economic alternatives and resources to project the Maya rainforest.  During COVID-19, we’ve gone virtual to be able to provide classes and tours to anyone in the world, while continuing to help people in the local community.
